Gregory D. Haight

Greg Haight was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1968, the District of Columbia Bar in 1968, and the Maryland Bar in 1973. He received his A.B. in Mathematics from Boston College in 1965. While working as a Systems Analyst and Government Contracts Administrator, Mr. Haight attended Georgetown University Law Center; he earned his J.D. from Georgetown in 1968. Mr. Haight concentrates his practice in business representation, shareholder disputes, company split-ups, sale and purchase transactions, arbitration and mediation, real estate transactions, “White Collar” criminal matters, toxic tort litigation, and other general civil litigation.

Mr. Haight’s litigation experience is extensive, and he has been an active and recognized force in the Northern Virginia legal community for more than thirty years. As an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for Arlington County, Virginia, Mr. Haight tried hundreds of criminal cases, including both bench and jury trials. After serving as a prosecutor, Mr. Haight was appointed to serve as the County Attorney for Arlington County, in which capacity he advised the County Board of Supervisors on various matters, including zoning, land use, and legislation. Mr. Haight also represented the County with respect to rate hearings for utilities and transportation matters. In 1973, after a stint in partnership with famed trial lawyer Melvin Belli, Mr. Haight and Mr. Vince Tramonte founded the firm now known as Haight, Tramonte, Yeonas & Roberts, P.C.

Although Mr. Haight views mediation and settlement as the preferred method for resolving dispute, he has litigated many high stakes cases. Mr. Haight’s jury verdict of $2,100,000.00 in the 1980s was, at the time, the largest punitive damage award in Virginia’s history, and his closing argument from that case is featured in the Million Dollar Arguments educational series. Mr. Haight also represents various local and international businesses. In 2001, serving as general counsel to Funge Systems, he was instrumental in the creation of the world’s only fully compliant “smart card” based payment system, which is now known as Navy Cash. As part of the representation, he negotiated agreements with Microsoft, Certicom Corporation, Maximus, BTG, the U.S. Treasury, Chase Manhattan Bank, and numerous “smart card” manufacturers and integrators.

Mr. Haight is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, the Maryland State Bar, the Fairfax Bar Association, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Virginia Medical Malpractice Review Panel, the American Arbitration Association, and the Vienna Board of Zoning Appeals. Mr. Haight has also served as President of the Plaintiff's Bar in Northern Virginia.
